Why This Time and Place?

This golf course is so much more than a beautiful backdrop for our wedding day—it is the place where some of the most important chapters of my life began.

In 1977, when I was seven years old, my grandparents started bringing my brother and me here. It is where I first learned to play golf. Week after week they patiently guided us around the course, teaching us the game one swing at a time. As kids, our routine never changed: we would play three holes, then sit down on a bench or the edge of a green and share two peanut-butter or cheese crackers and one-third of a can of Coke. After that little feast we would play three more holes, stop again for the same snack, and finish the last three the same way. We took forever! Golfers constantly had to play through us. At the time it felt utterly frustrating, but looking back I realize those long, unhurried afternoons taught me patience, resilience, and the simple joy of being outside with the people I loved.

Almost everyone who will be with us on our wedding day is someone I met, grew closer to, or deepened a friendship with because of my genesis of golf at this course. The friendships, the laughter, the quiet conversations between holes—none of that would have happened if not for this course.

Heather is the reason this place feels even more special. It was here, on this same course where I first learned the game as a little boy, that she played her very first solo round of golf. Watching her step onto that first tee alone—nervous, determined, and completely in her element—made me fall for her all over again. She brings a confidence that is sometimes 'Quiet', along with a joyful spirit, to everything she does. Seeing her discovering the game on the same fairways that shaped my life felt like the perfect circle. Heather has a way of turning ordinary moments into memories we'll keep forever, and I'm so grateful that the place where I learned patience and a love of the game is also the place where she claimed a piece of it for herself.

So when it came time to choose the place where we would begin our married life, our decision felt inevitable. We are not just getting married on a golf course. We are getting married on the grounds that shaped me, introduced me to the game I love, and brought so many of the people we care about into our lives.
